The Carlton Football Club today re-opened its doors to fans upon the completion of Stage Two of the IKON Park redevelopment.

The project delivers fully integrated, state-of-the-art AFL and AFLW facilities, and administration areas, cementing IKON Park as the home of AFLW.

Chief Executive Officer Brian Cook was proud to reinforce the Club’s ongoing commitment to gender equality.

“These are state-of-the-art facilities, for both the AFL and AFLW,” Cook said.

“I think it’s a genuine commitment and sign of our contribution to gender equality.

“All of the facilities for AFL and AFLW are the same size and same quality – gyms and indoor facilities and lot of other areas are integrated.

“I think it’s probably the first of its kind in Australia, and we’re very proud of it.”

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopolous reaffirmed the importance of providing equal amenities for AFL and AFLW players, as well as paving the way for future generations.

“The ability for women to participate in AFLW, as professional athletes and the aspiration of women coming through, to see that they can train in the best facilities available, is about respect for women, and respect for all Victorians,” Dimopolous said.

The opening also marked the first time in two years that Carlton fans were welcomed back to IKON Park, a fitting moment in a significant week for the Club.

“They’ve been to some open training sessions, but this is the first time in two years that they’ve been able to have a holistic view of what’s going on around here, and we’re really thankful to them for coming back.”

Carlton’s AFL team will face Collingwood in a “virtual elimination final” at the MCG on Sunday afternoon, while the AFLW season opener will return to IKON Park on Thursday 25 August, also against the old enemy.
