Carlton’s Kane Lucas says he’s relishing in his new hybrid role of a wingman who moves up forward.

The 22-year-old now has 33 games under his belt, since being drafted by the Blues with their first pick in the 2009 National Draft.

Lucas has told radio RSN, he’s growing in confidence under coach Mick Malthouse.

“It’s been good to be getting regular opportunities. Obviously you get more confidence the more games you play, and you start to play more natural footy – so it’s been really good this year.”

Lucas has revealed that execution and practicing set shots have been a focus at training this week, after Friday night’s nail-biting one-point win over North Melbourne.

Carlton will face another big test this weekend, against a confident Gold Coast Suns outfit at Metricon Stadium.

Lucas says while the Suns have plenty of quality players, he fully expects star skipper Gary Ablett to be tagged.

“I’d hate to see how many possessions he'd get if he didn’t have a tag!“

“I think you’ve got to accept the fact that he’s going to get the ball a few times, and just influence how he uses that footy and try to push him to make him ineffective with those disposals.“

“I’m not sure who’s going to get the job – but it’s going to be a pretty big job.”
