Evergreen defender Kade Simpson will play on for at least another year in the navy blue guernsey after agreeing to a new one-year deal.

The 32-year-old had a stellar season in the club’s backline and reached his 250-game milestone in the Blues’ thrilling win over Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium in Round 8.

Heading into his 15th pre-season campaign, Carlton’s vice-captain said he was delighted to have locked in the new contract.

“The Club is united, and while we know we have plenty of hard work ahead of us, we have an exciting young list coming through and it’s an environment I want to be part of,” Simpson said.

“I really enjoyed this season under Brendon Bolton and the coaching panel and the body is feeling good. While I can still contribute to the playing group, I am keen to go on so I’m thankful to the Club and my manager for making this happen.”

Head of Football Andrew McKay said the much-loved Simpson was the epitome of a spirit player for the Carlton Football Club.

“Kade is such a highly respected member of our playing group and the experience he brings to the side is invaluable,” McKay said.

“Not only is he a fantastic leader and mentor for our defenders, he is just so reliable and consistent down back and we’re thrilled he’s staying on for another year.”

Simpson was recently named in the 2016 40-man All-Australian squad, recognised for his superb run and dash off the half-back line.

Simpson was recruited to Carlton at pick No.45 in the 2002 National Draft and made his debut in Round 11, 2003 against Geelong. The 2013 John Nicholls Medallist has played 264 games and booted 127 goals since arriving at Ikon Park.
