Carlton Football Club has strengthened its stocks with four new players set to arrive at Ikon Park after deals were reached on the final day of the AFL Trade Period.

The Blues have secured the exciting talents of former Giants Caleb Marchbank and Jarrod Pickett, both top-10 draft picks in the 2014 national draft.

GWS also packaged its future second-round draft pick, which was subsequently on-traded to Hawthorn in exchange for picks 48, 66 and 70.

Earlier in the day, Carlton welcomed Geelong utility Billie Smedts, along with the Cats’ future first-round selection and pick 63. In that trade, Carlton exchanged its future second-round selection, along with out-of-contract defender Zach Tuohy who will depart the Blues after six seasons.

In exchange for Marchbank, Pickett and the future second-round selection, Carlton traded picks 45 and 58, as well as the future first-round draft pick that was secured via the Tuohy trade.

The Blues will also welcome midfielder Rhys Palmer from GWS in exchange for pick 135.

Bryce Gibbs will also remain at the Blues, after the Club could not reach an agreement with Adelaide.

The Club had maintained that due to Bryce’s position as a contracted player and his overall value to the football club, Adelaide would have to provide equitable compensation, which it was unable to do.

Bryce has upheld the utmost professionalism since Adelaide disclosed its interest in obtaining him.
