Young defender Caleb Marchbank will pull on the navy blue jumper in 2017, after Carlton secured his talents on Thursday via the trade period.

Known for his fierce attack on the footy as well as his versatility to play in a number of positions, the former Giant was initially selected by GWS with pick No. 6 in the 2014 national draft.

Although injuries hampered parts of his junior career, Marchbank’s dedication to his rehab saw the 19-year-old get back on the park and receive All-Australian Under-18 honours at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

Since making his AFL debut in Round 12, 2015 v North Melbourne, Marchbank has played seven games and will be looking for more senior opportunities next year.

There’s no doubt he’ll add depth to Carlton’s backline in 2017.

He said it:

“I like to think that I’m a rebounding defender that attacks in the air and goes for his marks. My versatility to play a variety of roles is also a strength.”

– Marchbank chats to AFL Media before the 2014 national draft.

They said it:

"He's pretty special. He's probably squeezed a year's worth of footy into the 10 games he played this year…he's always a metre in front of his opponent, he reads the play so well."

– Lee Fraser from the Murray Bushrangers spoke highly of Marchbank ahead of the 2014 national draft.
