Another Silvagni will join the Blues after Alex Silvagni was recruited to the Club at Monday’s NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

The 29-year-old’s AFL career will continue in the navy blue, after 53 games for Fremantle between 2010 to 2016.

The experienced defender will provide key position maturity and additional depth to a young, developing Carlton side.

GM of List Management and Strategy Stephen Silvagni said the drafting of the mature defender was to provide additional support in the Blues’ backline.

“While we’re still setting our list foundations and very much focused on our youth development to ensure we have some depth, Alex will provide some key position maturity for our list,” Silvagni said.

“We now have 27 players on our list with less than 50 games experience, so Alex will be able to provide some maturity for us.”

Silvagni was drafted to Fremantle in the 2010 rookie draft with their second selection.  He went on to make his debut for the Dockers in the opening round of the 2010 season, taking seven marks and gathering 14 possessions against Adelaide.

He joins South Australian small forward Kym LeBois as the Blues' new rookies, while Ciaran Sheehan and Andrew Gallucci have been re-rookie listed.
