RUNNING defender Cam O’Shea has been rewarded for his outstanding season in the VFL, with the Blues selecting the 25-year-old in Monday’s NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft.

O’Shea made an immediate impact for the Northern Blues, winning the Club’s best-and-fairest and making the VFL’s Team of the Year.

Before he landed at Ikon Park, O’Shea spent six years at the Port Adelaide Football Club, after initially being picked up by the Power with selection No.52 in the 2010 national draft.

Since making his debut against Collingwood in Round 1, 2011, the defender has made 81 senior appearances, including Port’s 2014 preliminary final against Hawthorn.

Carlton’s GM of List Management and Strategy Stephen Silvagni said O’Shea boasted a great intercept mark and would provide leadership and experience.

“Cam’s AFL experience and knowledge will be beneficial to our side and it’s really valuable to have another mature body in the mix,” Silvagni said.

“He showed this year for the Northern Blues that he’s not afraid of hard work and will also provide leadership in down back, so we’re pleased he’ll pull on the navy blue next season.”

Welcome, Cam!

They said it:

“He’s been enormous. He brings a really good feel to the playing group. He is a cool head. He’s got some experience obviously. There’s just no fuss about him. He works really hard on his craft and sets a great example for our players.”
