CARLTON Football Club can confirm veteran defender Alex Silvagni will miss the remainder of the season, after rupturing the Achilles tendon in his right leg.

The 30-year-old will require surgery after he was sidelined with the injury during the Northern Blues’ VFL clash against Richmond at Punt Road Oval on Sunday.

Head of Football Andrew McKay said the defender would be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

“Clearly we are very disappointed for Alex after scans today confirmed the rupture of his Achilles which will keep him out for the remainder of the season,” McKay said.

“He is a valuable member of our leadership group and respected clubman, and will continue to contribute in that leadership space.

“The Club will support Alex through the considerable rehab program he is about to face after his surgery later this week.”
