Vescio awarded VFLW Goal of the Year

Vescio's VFLW Goal of the Year This stunning solo effort from Darcy Vescio was adjudged the VFLW Goal of the Year.

The VFLW awards kept on coming for Darcy Vescio last night.

Vescio was unveiled as the winner of the competition’s Goal of the Year for her piece of individual brilliance against Williamstown in Round 10.

With the ball coming into the forward line, Vescio — playing her first game in six weeks — gathered the ball, handballed to herself, side-stepped an opponent and dribbled home a classy goal on her left foot.

It was adjudged the best goal of the season, and came in second place for the VFLW ‘Plays of the Year’.

It was a very busy night for Vescio, who polled 15 votes in the Lambert Pearce Medal — the most of any Blue.

Named after Victorian Women’s Football League (VWFL) founding committee member Helen Lambert and six-time VWFL Lambert Medal winner Daisy Pearce, it was the first time this newly named award was presented.

She stormed home to finish in fourth place, eight behind eventual winner Jess Duffin of Williamstown.
