The Blues’ young playing list was faced with a number of challenges in 2018, and as a result, finished the year with fewer wins than previous seasons.

However, the valuable experience gained by first and second-year players, coupled with the resilience built within the team, will no doubt hold the Club in good stead for years to come.

With the side now on a break, we’re analysing each player’s year in statistics. Here’s the review for Carlton’s No. 20, Lachie Plowman.

2018 IN FOCUS

Plowman was inducted into the Blues’ leadership group at the start of 2018, providing both off-field and on-field direction to his teammates.

Plowman was one of a number of casualties to an injury-impacted backline, after playing every game up until Round 14. The 191cm defender was on the receiving end of a grade two medial ligament strain against Collingwood.

Playing on some of the competition’s most prolific forwards, the 24-year-old amassed an average of 4.5 intercept possessions across his 13-game season. He was also ranked second at Carlton for one-percenters before injury struck.

Scheduled to be back for the commencement of pre-season, Plowman will be out to find the consistency and continuity which saw him play 40 games consecutively at the Blues after his debut.

BEST PERFORMANCE

Standing up to the plate against a significant test, Plowman shone against Geelong when the Blues made their first trip down the highway in 21 years.

While Carlton wasn’t able to record an upset victory after being in the game for three quarters, Plowman was one of the Blues’ best. His season-high 20 disposals also included 13 intercept possessions — the most any Carlton player managed in a single game in 2018.

SEASON HIGHLIGHT

His best game for the season had extra significance for Plowman, with the former Giant playing his 50th game for the Blues in Round 10. He will enter the 2019 season having played 73 AFL games across six seasons.
