Carlton livewire Zac Fisher is expecting to take part in full training within the month as the Blues returned to pre-season on Monday.

Ikon Park welcomed back the Club’s first to fourth year players, marking the end of an eight-week off-season for the players present.

Among a big contingent to take part in the first session of training were new recruits Mitch McGovern and Will Setterfield, as well as Sam Docherty (two weeks early), Fisher and Tom Williamson returning from injury.

Fisher said his rehabilitation was coming along smoothly, and he lapped up the first training session in two months.

“Up until the best and fairest, I was here doing rehab on my leg which is coming along nicely,” Fisher said.

“I was able to go home and spend time with family and friends, as well as build my fitness in preparation for pre-season.”

Fisher enjoyed a breakout year in 2018, recording numbers which ranked him as one of the most exciting emerging midfielders in the competition.

After his year was ended prematurely with a fractured fibula, Fisher has set his sights firmly on his recovery and then producing another year of improvement in his third season.

“The leg is feeling really good. I did the rehab and I’m expected to be back fully training in three of four weeks,” Fisher said.

“They’ll start increasing my loads and I’ll start running and kicking more as the weeks go on.”

After the refurbishment of the ground last year, Fisher believed having their first session from the outset on Royal Parade would hold the Blues in good stead over the summer months.

“It’s really good to be back on Ikon Park,” Fisher said.

“Moving around week-to-week last year put a bit of strain on you. To be here every session is great and the deck is great.”
