Will Setterfield has cast his eye on a midfield role alongside Patrick Cripps and Marc Murphy at his new club.

Having spent the last few weeks integrating among the playing group at his new club, Setterfield is hopeful of featuring alongside some of Carlton’s very best from the outset.

Speaking to Macquarie Sports Radio on Tuesday morning, the 20-year-old said the chance to don the navy blue alongside two dual best-and-fairest winners was something he was looking forward to.

“I’m settling in very well. It’s been a good couple of weeks and now all the older boys are back, which is good,” Setterfield said.

“I’m going to come in and help the midfield with guys like Cripps and Murphy on the inside. That’ll be my main role to start with.”

It’s been well-documented that Setterfield has arrived at the Blues on the comeback trail from an ACL injury which ruled out his entire 2018 season.

With Mitch McGovern saying he “couldn’t explain his excitement” for the season opener, Setterfield echoed the sentiments of his fellow recruit as he continues with the rehabilitation process.

“I should be all good for Round 1,” he said.

“I’ve just got to keep ticking off criteria and ticking the boxes with the physios, then hopefully I’ll be back in the swing of things sooner rather than later.”

Setterfield forms an important part of phase two for the Blues: with the talent in the door, now comes the development and the younger brigade ‘owning the future’.

The former pick No.5 said he was buoyed by the chance of building alongside a raft of players in the same age profile.

“We’ve got a good young list that is going to come through together as a group,” he said.

“As we’ve seen over the last few years with the Doggies and Richmond, things can change very quickly.

“We’ve got leaders at the Club, a good middle-age bracket and we’ve just got to get the young guys coming through to help round out the group."
