CARLTON captain Brianna Davey is ready to translate a tough pre-season into the season proper when AFLW 3.0 begins this weekend.

Davey believes the Blues’ locker room is buzzing with anticipation in the lead-up to the game, inspired by new coach Daniel Harford and his fresh game-plan.

“‘Harf’ has come in and given a boost to the group,” Davey said at the AFLW season launch on Wednesday.

“Fans can expect a more attacking game. He wants us to really take the game on and be attacking.

“Hopefully from that, [fans] will see a lot more goals, which we sort of lacked last year.”

In Round 2 last season, Davey ruptured her ACL and missed the remainder of the 2018 season.

But after a long break from the game, Davey and her team are looking forward to travelling to Hobart for their clash with the Kangaroos.

“We’re just really excited... We’re ready to go,” Davey said. “It’s been a long time between seasons and it’s obviously been a hard slog this pre-season with lots of running involved.”

In the Blues’ only practice match prior to AFLW 3.0, Davey played the entire game away from her usual half-back post. Instead, she was utilised up forward with great effect.

The positional change paid immediate dividends, with Davey kicking four goals.

She credited Tayla Harris and Darcy Vescio - among others - as those who are making her positional change a smooth one.

“I’m having to wrap my head around the new role but at the same time there’s some great people [in the forward line],” she said.

“They’re taking me under their wing and I’m learning lots.” Davey has been impressed with the entire team throughout the gruelling pre-season.

“Everyone’s hit the ground running... I could probably name the whole squad,” she said.

“We’re keen to be able to put that into a game and get over to Tasmania.”
