THE GAME IN FOCUS:

It’s Carlton’s chance to start the 2019 AFL season on the right note.

Coming off what was a promising JLT Community Series, the Blues will be looking to put the new, well-rehearsed structures of the pre-season into action.

The Blues are likely to benefit from the off-season additions of Mitch McGovern, Nic Newman and Will Setterfield who - in a short time - have proven to add greater depth to the team.

There is no doubt that the Tigers will come out firing, looking to extend their seven-game winning streak against the Blues.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET:

The Blues got away to a fast start when these two teams last met in the 2018 season opener.

It was Charlie Curnow who was the standout for the Blues, kicking five goals, earning three Brownlow votes and showing exactly how dangerous he can be up forward.

Patrick Cripps also demonstrated plenty of class dominating the midfield to finish with 36 disposals and seven tackles.

However, Carlton's fast start wasn't enough, ultimately going down by 26 points to the then-reigning premiers.

BLUE FOCUS:

It’s all about Marc Murphy this week as he is set to run out in his 250th game in the Navy Blue.

The veteran has played in 22 games against the Tigers over his career, averaging 24 disposals and 10 contested possessions.

Murphy’s experience and leadership will be particularly important as he supports Patrick Cripps out on the field in the youngster’s first game as co-captain.

GET EXCITED ABOUT:

Fans will have to wait until this Wednesday's team selection, but there is a very good chance that No.1 draft pick Sam Walsh could make his debut in the Navy Blue.

The 18-year old has not put a foot wrong during the pre-season, and has impressed his teammates, coaches and the wider AFL community with his professionalism and dedication to the game.

BLUE VIEW:

The pre-season is finally over, and there will be no-one more thankful than the players.

It’s not just a win that’s on the line when these two teams come together this Thursday. It’s pride.

For the Blues, the win will signify a massive step forward for the Club, and be a huge reward for the record 56,006-plus members who have shown their faith in the Navy Blue.
