HE’S someone who knows Marc Murphy more than most.

After 11 years as teammates and neighbours in the locker room, Bryce Gibbs couldn’t be higher in his praise for Carlton’s upcoming milestone man — both on and off the field.

With the two spending the majority of their football life alongside one another, Gibbs said Murphy was someone who “had a huge impact on my football career.”

“‘Murph’ was such a good shoulder to lean on from day one,” Gibbs said.

“Being the No.1 draft pick before me, me coming into the Club, I drew a lot of experience from him and he helped me along that journey.

“We didn’t miss too many games in my first 10 years at the Club, we went through a lot of highs and lows in that time.”

Murphy arrived at the end of 2005, before Gibbs followed 12 months later in similar circumstances.

Having played in 209 games in the Navy Blue alongside him, Gibbs knows how much it means to his former mate to pull on the jumper.

“Outside of family, it means everything to him,” he said.

“It’s pretty much his family. He’s been there for 14 or 15 years now and he has sacrificed so much for the football club.

“He has invested so much time and blood, sweat and tears. The Club is like a family to him.”
