CARLTON senior coach Brendon Bolton remains “determined as ever” to get a result.

After a disappointing match against North Melbourne saw Carlton finish with its largest losing margin since Round 1, the Blues are determined to get back on track.

Bolton spoke to media before Carlton faces the old enemy Collingwood on Saturday.

“One game doesn’t define or take us off course that we don’t believe we can compete with teams,” said Bolton.

“We can catastrophise that, one game, we’re annoyed and frustrated with it. But if you go to the base of the whole year, there’s been more than four quarters to look at.”

Putting down the disappointing performance to a lapse in mental preparation, Bolton stressed the Blues will take a “steely resolve” into the weekend’s grudge match.

“In elite sport you prepare in a real similar way week to week: we did last week similar to the weeks before when the effort was there,” he said.

“It’s sometimes really hard to put your finger on exactly what it was, but we’re in no situation to be relaxed or at all satisfied and think things are going to happen.”

Ahead of their clash with the in-form Pies, Bolton is confident the Blues have the clarity on their performance to block out external noise.

“We’re pretty clear on what we’re doing well and what we’re doing wrong and when you’ve got that clarity, you’re really determined and driven,” he said.

“Our club has got a real maturity about not letting the noise take us off direction of what we need to improve on and what we’re doing well.”

One player that the Blues will need at their best against the Pies is young midfielder Sam Petrevski-Seton.

Bolton spoke on the youngster’s journey ahead of his 50th milestone match this Saturday.

“Samo broke on to the scene with real positivity in his first year, second year had some ups and downs and that’s the nature of it,” he said.

“We’d like development to be totally linear but this year it’s starting to really move in the right direction.”

The Blues will welcome back star ruckman Matthew Kreuzer to the team after a week on the sidelines with an adductor injury.

Bolton was keen to see the important big man back in the line-up for this week.

“I think he’s huge, the games he’s played he’s just been so unfortunate with injury.”

“You can see people grow around him.”
