Newman: Loving time at Blues

Two Tones | TDK's sneaky antics Nic Newman spills the dirt on Tom De Koning and Gumtree on this week's episode of The Two Tones.

CARLTON’s injured backline might catch a break on the weekend, with the potential return of Nic Newman for the Blues’ clash with GWS this Sunday.

The defender is a chance to return to senior action after being sidelined for the last two rounds with patella tendon soreness.

Newman gave Blues fans an update on his injury status in this week’s episode of The Two Tones.

“We have our main session on Thursday, so I can’t have a definitive yes or no yet but it’s looking positive,” Newman said.

“We’ve ticked every box and we haven’t had any hiccups, so touch wood I can have another good day on Thursday [in the] main session and then put my hand up.”

The reliable defender shared in the frustration of his teammates after the Blues’ fourth-quarter defeat to Collingwood in Round 8.

However, he said there were positives to take from a young side constantly being in it to win it.

“We haven’t had a bad game bar North Melbourne, so that was obviously disappointing, but we’ve put ourselves in positions to win every week pretty much,” he said.

“So there’s a positive in that, we just have to tidy up on finishing games.

“Hopefully we’ve learnt some lessons from the previous months, especially the Gold Coast and the Collingwood games in tight situations.

Newman has proved a valuable off-season acquisition for the Blues, with the Mt Martha local making the move home after being traded from Sydney at the end of last year.

Relishing his new role at the Blues, Newman was quick to praise his new teammates.

“I’ve loved my time here. It’s been all and more than I expected,” he said.

“It was an interesting period of my life, but I’m really glad that it’s done and I’m settled back here and loving my time.”
