THE Northern Blues prevailed by 25 points in a real arm wrestle against Frankston on Saturday afternoon at Ikon Park.

Looking to build on their Round 5 performance, Northern led the game from start to finish but weren’t able to capitalise on their dominance and put away the nagging Frankston side.

That was the case until the final term, where the Blues kicked five goals to Frankston’s three to ultimately prevail 13.10 (88) to 9.9 (63).

It was a game which followed the pattern of a fortnight ago, with Frankston constantly persisting with Northern before the Blues kicked away for a fourth win from five games.

Patrick Kerr was the protagonist, standing out for the Northern Blues in attack.

With his presence, leading capacity and contested marks up forward on full display, Kerr finished with a career-best six goals as well as seven marks for the game.

Darcy Lang, co-captain for the day, led the way for the Blues’ midfield with a dominant performance, collecting 28 disposals. Sam Fisher provided strong support to Lang, finishing with 25 disposals in a solid performance.

The ruck duo of Andrew Phillips and Matthew Lobbe gave the Northern Blues a big head-start, dominating the hitouts 56 to 12 and giving the Blues midfielders first use in clearances in the centre square and across the ground.

Alex Fasolo showed his class up forward and around the ground, with his experience and smarts being too much for Frankston to contain. He ended the game with 19 disposals, 10 marks and two crucial goals in the final quarter.

Cam Polson was electric in the midfield, using his pace and evasive skills across the ground: his day got off to the best possible start, kicking a clever goal from the boundary in the opening term.

In defence, Hugh Goddard was his usual consistent self, standing tall all day by controlling the Frankston forwards and rebounding off half back.

Northern will look to continue its two-game winning streak when it goes up against Sandringham in Round 8 at Marvel Stadium. The clash will be a curtain raiser for the AFL Round 10 match between St Kilda and Carlton.
