Carlton's clean sweep

Highlights | R19 Watch the highlights from the Round 19 win over Adelaide.

A CLEAN sweep and a perfect 10.

Reflecting the even contribution across the ground, eight Blues have polled in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year votes for their Round 19 victory over Adelaide.

Patrick Cripps was the key contributor for the Blues, unsurprisingly collecting the full 10 votes for his game-changing performance against the Crows.

The skipper recorded a new personal best with an astounding 19 clearances and 39 disposals (24 contested), to go with his seven tackles and a goal.

This last round of votes sees Cripps close the gap on those leading the way, having now polled 78 votes. He sits narrowly behind Geelong’s Tim Kelly (83 votes) and the Western Bulldogs’ Marcus Bontempelli (79 votes).

Apart from the captain’s standout performance, Levi Casboult (five votes), Will Setterfield (four votes), Kade Simpson (four votes), Marc Murphy (three votes), Michael Gibbons (two votes), Andrew Phillips (one vote) and Sam Walsh (one vote) were also recognised.

Casboult recorded another dominant performance in what has been an outstanding run of form for the versatile 29-year-old.

The big man played most of his game time in attack and provided a headache for the Adelaide defence, finishing with three goals and 10 marks in the 27-point win.

Setterfield collected four votes for his breakout performance in Navy Blue, with his efforts through the centre and up forward - including the match-sealing goal - acknowledged by the coaches.

Veterans Simpson and Murphy produced trademark performances to feature among the votes, with the former a stalwart in defence: he collected 31 disposals, 12 marks and eight rebound 50s.

Murphy was just as impactful through the midfield, notching 31 disposals and adding four clearances in a game where the Blues dominated in the middle of the ground.

Gibbons has continued his rapid progression in his first season, with the ready-made recruit earning votes for the second straight week: his 22 disposals and final-quarter goal yielded two votes.

Returning ruckman Phillips and NAB AFL Rising Star favourite Walsh both collected a vote for their efforts: it was the sixth time in seven weeks where Walsh polled in the award.
