CARLTON conceded its lowest amount of scoring shots for the season on the weekend.

Restricting Adelaide to just 15 scoring shots from its 46 forward entries, the work of Liam Jones and Jacob Weitering was pivotal in the 27-point victory.

A commendable presence over the course of the 2019 season, the partnership of Jones and Weitering down back has gone from strength-to-strength — it was once against evident on Saturday.

After his best-on-ground performance against Gold Coast a week prior, Jones’ possession-rate was down but his influence was just as big.

His 12 one-percenters on the weekend were the third-most of any player on the weekend, while his towering mark late in the game was just as telling. As the deepest defender, he restricted the in-form Josh Jenkins (15 goals in five games) to six disposals and a goal.

Meanwhile, Jones’ partner-in-crime continues to enjoy a breakout year in Navy Blue.

Stationed against Taylor Walker, Adelaide’s captain looked to be an ominous threat with three goals midway through the second term.

However, Weitering quelled his direct opponent, restricting him to just three disposals in the second half and putting in another accomplished performance.

Operating at 100 percent efficiency, Weitering continued to show the polish and poise which has defined his 2019.

The defensive combination have either won or halved 73 percent of their one-on-one contests this season, while they both sit in the top 10 for intercept marks in the AFL and top 25 for spoils per game.

Saturday marked the third time Carlton kept an opposition to 60 points or less this season: the Blues have only conceded 100 points twice when both Jones and Weitering feature in the side.
