Silvagni "inspired" by Bluebaggers

Jack talks new contract Jack Silvagni spoke to media on Tuesday morning after signing on with Carlton for two more years.

“I GOT goosebumps.”

In the wake of signing a two-year deal that will see him remain a Blue until at least the end of 2021, Jack Silvagni credited Bluebaggers for their energy in recent weeks.

Speaking to media on Tuesday morning, Silvagni was full of praise for the support of the supporters and members following Carlton’s final home game for 2019.

“You know when you’re not playing for a finals spot or anything like that, it’s easy for fans shut up shop and not come,” Silvagni said.

“The way the supporters and the members have got around us the past few weeks, I think they’ve inspired the way we’ve been playing.

“We want to do them proud and their support doesn’t go unnoticed.”

The Blues’ turnaround in form has sparked supporters to get behind the emerging group, with last week’s crowd for the final home game of 2019 totalling 51,786.

For Silvagni, it was the support during Carlton’s Round 19 victory over Adelaide that sticks out in his mind.

“I remember against the Crows, Will Setterfield did this blind turn and the crowd went berserk,” he said.

“I was running half way down the wing and I got goosebumps, so it was pretty cool.”

Having solidified himself as a weekly fixture in the Blues’ senior side, the decision to commit to the Club for a further two years was an obvious one.

One of a number of recent re-signings, Carlton will head into season 2020 with greater continuity than years prior.

“Obviously I’ve got a big connection to the club as a supporter growing up and with my family ties as well,” he said.

“To be able to sign on for another couple of years is really exciting and I’m really pleased with the direction we’re going at the moment.

“We’re playing some really good footy and the players enjoy playing it, the fans enjoy watching it.”
