“THE perfect fit.”

Putting the romance to one side, the acquisition of Eddie Betts by Carlton was one which made sense on a number of levels.

That’s the opinion of both Stephen Silvagni (GM of List Management and Strategy) and Michael Agresta (List Manager) at Ikon Park.

Betts sealed his return home to Royal Parade on Monday afternoon, with Carlton sending its future fourth-round draft pick to Adelaide.

While plenty has been made of Betts’ return to the Club where he made his start, Agresta said the decision was one which had plenty of merit from a football perspective.

“We’re really excited to have Eddie back. He’s pretty excited himself,” Agresta said on Sportsday.

“It really developed post-season. Eddie was keen to come back to Victoria and we had a need with his experience, both on and off the field.

“Eddie will add a lot to our list… we thought he’d be the perfect fit.”

The sentiments were echoed by Silvagni, who - when speaking outside AFL House after the trade was official - said the Club was  “delighted” to have the familiar face back.

With Betts one of the game’s greatest-ever in front of goal, Silvagni said his on-field impact was just as important as off-field.

“There may be a bit of romance there, but he’ll bring some real potency to our forward line,” Silvagni said.

“We were all as one that Eddie would be a good fit for our football club: we’re delighted to have him back.”
