What does a career in sport for a Carlton College of Sport graduate look like?

There are many different pathways that students can take to ultimately land their dream job in sport.

The even better news is that there are plenty of graduate opportunities in the field out there.

According to the Australian Government Department of Employment, jobs growth in sports is forecasted to grow by  13 per cent across between 2018-20231.

Here are just a few opportunities that graduates are ideally suited too after completing either a Diploma of Sport Coaching Development or Diploma of Elite Sport Business at the Carlton College of Sport.

Typical Sport Coaching and Development employment opportunities:

  1. AFL Game Development Officer:

    Every sport has game development officers or coordinators who are tasked with growing participation and reach of their sports. Students will work with current AFL Game Development Officer’s as part of Auskick placements.
  2. Junior Basketball Coach:

    Junior coaches and umpires are required by schools and sporting organisations across the country to develop the next generation of Australian sports stars. Learn the tools needed by coaches when studying ‘General principles of sport coaching’ in the first semester.
  3. Health and Fitness Programs Officer:

    Elite athletes require the highest level of preparation before a game day. Health and fitness professionals are responsible for ensuring that athletes at any level are ready to go once they cross that white line. Health and fitness presents a great opportunity for people. Students will learn the fundamentals of exercise prescription when they study ‘Foundations of exercise programming.’

 

Typical Elite Sport Business Employment Opportunities:

  1. Media and Marketing Coordinator:

    One of the fastest growing areas of any sporting organisation, the media and marketing arm plays an important role in engaging fans once the game is over. There are growing opportunities to join a team and find new ways to engage fans in a contemporary and exciting manner. Contribute to Carlton’s league leading digital content during game day social media placements.
  2. Customer Service and Membership Sales Officer:

    The heart of any sporting business is its frontline interaction with supporters: numerous opportunities exist to work in sports consumer business. Work side-by-side with the Carlton Football Club’s consumer team on match-days, and experience the front line of sport.

  1. Schools Program Coordinator:

    Sporting clubs are consistently engaging with schools in their local area in order to grow their supporter base as well as deliver community education programs through the vehicle of sport. Experience first-hand the Carlton Respects schools program via your placement with the Club’s community team.

Students completing either Diploma also have the option to keep studying toward a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Coaching and Development or Business respectively, having completed the equivalent first years study already: it means there really is an option for everyone after graduating the program.
