BLUEBAGGERS will get their first glimpse at Carlton’s fresh talent this Saturday.

Four new Blues have been named in a s strong team to face North Melbourne in Carlton’s first official practice match of 2020. 

Draftees Lucy McEvoy, Grace Egan, Vaomua Laloifi and rookie Irish recruit Joanne Doonan will all pull on the Navy Blue for the first time this weekend.

Selected with pick No.2 in last year’s NAB AFL Women’s Draft, McEvoy will be eager to prove her outstanding under-18 credentials in the lead-up to Round 1.

Egan will also make her debut after an impressive campaign with Richmond’s VFLW side in the midfield saw her snapped up by Carlton recruiters with pick No.13 as part of the AFLW Academy bidding process.

Rounding out the crop of debuting draftees, the excitable Laloifi will line-up on Ikon Park as a Carlton player for the first time: her last game was for the Western Bulldogs in the VFLW Grand Final at Ikon Park. 

Carlton will get its first boost of international talent on Saturday, calling on the services of Irish-born Doonan: it will be her first proper game since transitioning to the sport after captaining Fermanagh Gaelic Athletic Association Ladies team. 

The youngsters will be led by Katie Loynes and Kerryn Harrington in their first games as co-captains, with the full leadership group rounded out Sarah Hosking, Nicola Stevens and Alison Downie.

Consistency will be a key strength for the Blues in the clash with the Kangaroos, with 18 of the 21 players who lined up against Adelaide in last year’s AFLW Grand Final to feature this weekend.
