SENIOR Coach David Teague has left the door open for any ideas which would see the AFL season restarted.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Teague weighed in on the debate as to whether ‘quarantine hubs’ could be the answer to help get games started once again.

However, Teague was adamant that the Club would only take official advice from the AFL as to when it would be safe for the season to once again resume.

“Right now, there’s a lot of speculation and a lot of great ideas. People are trying to be innovative and think of ways to get our game back up and going,” Teague told the media.

“I love the innovation, I love the thoughts.

“As a club, you’re trying to prepare for as much as possible, but with so much speculation you can’t spend too much time on each proposition at the moment.

“If it gets the game up and going, I’m all for it. The game is facing a lot of challenges at the moment, as is the world.

“If we can provide some people at home some entertainment, and as long as we can do it in a safe environment, and also provide the game to opportunity to build and grow.”

Despite all the ideas flowing in for how a new-look 2020 season may pan out, Teague has remained focus on keeping connected with the team and ensuring that they are maintaining the hard work put in during the pre-season.

Like many, Teague and other members of the football department have been using a suite of video conferencing tools to stay in touch with players, having weekly check-ins on both an individual and group level.

Maintaining the friendships, conversation and banter that the players would otherwise normally be experiencing at this time is the number one priority for Teague, who is well aware of how important it is for teams to remain connected during these challenging times.

“Going to work with 60 of your mates every day is pretty cool and we can’t get to do that at the moment,” he said.

“As coaches and players, we understand how lucky we are and we’re missing that connection at the moment.

“The players are a lot more connected than I am. I think they’re trying their best to stay connected not only to their other teammates, but also to their family and friends.

“Some of them are currently living interstate from their family and friends as well: that’s always a challenge to try and stay connected.”
