COURTNEY Jones is hanging out for the day she can make her Navy Blue debut.

The second-year AFLW Blue came close in her first year at Ikon Park, named twice as an emergency through the 2020 season after being selected with pick No.59 in the 2019 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

With the season cut short ahead of the Blues’ preliminary final qualification, Jones is ready to make her case again in 2021.

“The pre-season was pretty surprising before Christmas, I definitely realised I had a lot of work to do to catch up to the team,” Jones said.

“I didn’t get a game, obviously I was disappointed but at the same time I wasn’t. I was just happy to be here. I had made it and I was just happy to be around the girls and 'Harf' and all the coaching staff."

At the beginning of her second AFLW pre-season, Jones’ goals are geared towards building towards match fitness while remaining coachable.

Working with Carlton AFLW Head of Performance Josh Milner, Jones is now beginning to feel comfortable at the elite level.

“My running is something I’ve been working on a lot with Josh and his team,” she said.

“For me it’s just being coachable, asking the questions and making it really hard for the coaches not to put me on that team.

“I want to be playing along the half forward line, I really pride myself on my kicking, I’ve been playing for 12 years and it’s something I’ve worked on a lot. It would be good to feed up Darcy and Tay one day.”
