THE 2021 VFL fixture has been announced, with Carlton's first standalone side in over 20 years to take part in this year's competition.

The new-look VFL competition - which includes standalone and AFL-aligned clubs from Queensland and New South Wales for the first time - will play 19 rounds this year, with 16 matches and three byes per club.

Carlton's VFL side, which will feature a mix of AFL and reserve-listed players each week, will get its season underway on Saturday 17 April.

The Blues will have its opening fortnight of the season at home against Queensland opposition, taking on Southport at IKON Park from 2pm before hosting Brisbane the following Sunday at midday.

The match-ups for the following rounds have been released, but - similar to the AFL fixture - dates, times and venues will be confirmed at a later date.

The VFL fixture will largely be consistent with the AFL fixture when it comes to interstate travel, meaning it'll largely be a whole squad affair each week for the Blues.
