WHEN Carlton last beat Brisbane at the Gabba, Michael Voss was the resident Lions Senior Coach, Sam Docherty was in Brisbane’s No.1 guernsey and Mitch Robinson was in Dark Navy.

That was almost ten years ago – Round 9, 2013 to be precise – when the touring Blues (despite their errant kicking) posted a meritorious 13-point win over the Lions, 13.20 (98) to 12.13 (85).

Prominent in the hard-fought victory was ’Sugar’ Kane Lucas and Jarrad Waite who contributed three goals each up front. Brock McLean and Chris Judd also held sway in midfield, and Robinson was typically lively in what was a largely scrappy affair.

Judd in fact earned two Brownlow votes in this contest to take his career medal vote tally to 200, while Waite and Garlett booted their 200th and 150th career goals respectively.

When the Blues take to the Gabba ground today, they’ll be looking for their first win over the Lions at the venue since 2013. Of course, they’ve enjoyed a win at the venue more recently than that, beating North Melbourne in Round 8, 2020 at the beginning of a long hub stint.
