THE LEGACY continues.

Carlton has confirmed its first new player of the upcoming AFLW campaign, with father-daughter recruit Sophie McKay to pull on the Navy Blue for the first time.

With the team due to be announced on Wednesday night, McKay has already been informed that game No.1 will be in the season opener against Collingwood, marking a full circle moment for the McKay family.

In the first ever AFLW game back in 2017, it was Abbie and Sophie McKay who rang the bell at IKON Park to bring in a new era, on a night where dad Andrew - a former Carlton AFL captain who played 244 games - was also Head of Football at the Blues.

Now, this Thursday, Sophie will feature in the first game of season 10 behind older sister Abbie, who will lead the team out in her first game as captain.

Selected with pick No.17 in the 2024 AFLW Draft last year, the Sandringham Dragons recruit has impressed all pre-season in the forward line, kicking two goals in the final practice match against GWS in Blacktown.

McKay will wear the No.55 guernsey - the number she selected when arriving at the Club, making her own mark at the Blues and representing Andrew and Abbie in the No.5 before her.

Carlton will announce its team of 21 on Wednesday night.
