OVERVIEW

Season 2013 was a frustrating one for Andrew Carrazzo, with injury restricting the Carlton vice-captain to just 10 games.

The 29-year-old suffered a calf injury in Round 5 against Adelaide; a match in which Carrazzo was looking like he’d returned to peak form. The injury kept Carrazzo sidelined until Round 15 and from there he managed a further five matches, before experiencing further a further calf problem.

While on the sidelines, Carrazzo remained an integral part of Carlton’s leadership group. He shouldered much of the Club’s match day media and speaking engagements, and led by example at the Club with his hard work in rehabilitation and training.

In March Carrazzo re-signed for another two years, keeping him in the navy blue until at least the end of 2015.

HE SAID IT

“It was hard, but the older I’ve got the more I’ve learned to put these things in perspective a little bit and realize how lucky I am with footy.

“I keep telling myself ‘I don’t know how much longer I’m going to play footy for’. I’m lucky to be contracted for another couple more years, but I don’t know how much longer my body’s going to let me go, so I’m just going to try to enjoy every minute of it for as long as I can even if I’m not feeling great, because I don’t want to wallow.”

THEY SAID IT

“Andrew’s form last season was some of the best we have seen from him, so this is obviously a major win for the Club.

“He is highly regarded by everyone here at Carlton, and the fact he finished sixth in last year’s Best & Fairest even though he missed a large chunk of the season through injury, indicates how significant he is to our team.”

– Carlton’s GM-Football Operations Andrew McKay on Carrazzo re-signing, March 12, 2013.
