Andrew McKay has been appointed General Manager Football Operations at the Carlton Football Club.

“We are delighted to announce Andrew McKay has agreed to join the Carlton Senior Management Team and will commence in his new position in mid-November,” said Carlton CEO Greg Swan.

McKay has been working with the AFL for the past seven years and brings outstanding credentials to this role.

He has been the AFL Game Development Manager for the past three years as well as a member of the AFL Laws of the Game Committee and the Tribunal Review Committee.  Previously he had been a member of the AFL Match Review Panel, including three years as Chairman.

“In his current role at the AFL Andrew has worked closely with all clubs. He has liaised with the Football Departments at each club, meeting the coaches, player leadership groups, medical teams and the high performance staff as part of his role as Game Analysis Manager,” Greg Swann said.

“Working with these groups at Carlton and the Football Department at the AFL are the key relationships for this role. We know we have selected the best person for the job,” Swann added.

For McKay it is a return to the Club where he played 244 games between 1993 and 2003, including the 1995 premiership, is a Life Member and former captain.

“I am excited about this role and the opportunity to work directly with the coaches, players and Carlton’s Elite Performance Unit. It will be a great challenge and one that I am looking forward to.

“There is no doubt the team is on the right path and the Club as a whole has made big steps in recent years and being involved as a senior manager to ensure the growth continues is very exciting. It is a bonus for me that it is at Carlton,” McKay said.

During his playing career at Carlton McKay is remembered for studying veterinary science and has continued to work as a vet since retiring from the game.
