It's fair to say that earning yourself a nickname on your first day is not usually the norm at the Carlton Football Club.

Blaine Boekhorst, however, is an exception.

The Blues' first round draft pick admits he was unsure how Mick Malthouse would react to a social media post on Twitter earlier this year.

"He's got a new nickname and it's called 'Tweet,'" Malthouse said with a grin.

Relieved his new senior coach has a sense of humour, 21-year-old Boekhorst maintains that he has learnt his lesson.

"He's taken it pretty well. We'll just put it behind us, make a laugh out of it,” Boekhorst said.

"It's not the best thing to go into a club, but I guess it's a good little ice-breaker for the boys.

"I think ‘Tweeter' might stick for a while."

Jokes aside, the former Swan Districts player says his focus lies on making selection for Round 1.

"I played senior footy in Perth so my goal is to play as early as possible (and) make my own imprint at the Carlton Football Club,” Boekhorst said.

"I think being 21 is an advantage – (and having) that midfield speed, someone to break the lines, use the ball along to our forwards and adapt to the game plan."
