The Carlton Football Club’s Christmas Book Drive is on this week.

Do you have unwanted children’s books that are still in good condition? Or perhaps you would like to consider purchasing a book to donate?

We’re collecting books for primary school aged children who live in Carlton’s High Rise Estates.

As part of Carlton’s long-standing relationship with the High Rise Estates, Carlton players will be involved in a literacy program with children at the Carlton Primary School from next year.

The majority of students at the Carlton Primary School are from migrant and refugee backgrounds, and therefore English is their second language.

The Carlton Primary School’s Community Learning Coordinator Bec Harris says reading is a skill for life and having access to books is vital for children’s development.

"We know that books are a luxury for many families, and we want the students at the Carlton Primary School to have the chance to own books,” Harris said.

“You can help us achieve this with the donation of a book for a child aged between 5-12. We will pass the book to a child to keep, ready for the school holidays.

"The literacy project is in its early days but our students really have a growing love of books, so we’re hopeful that together with Carlton we can achieve some truly positive learning outcomes.”

If you can help please bring your books to Visy Park this week, Dec 8-13. The team has an open training session on Wednesday 10 December from 11.15am-12.45pm – the perfect opportunity to see our new recruits in action and make a donation along the way.

Books can be placed in our special donation bookcase located by Carlton reception.

We hope that with your help together we can collect enough books so that every child at Carlton Primary School and in the Carlton High Rise Estates can benefit from the spirit of giving this Christmas.
