Talk about turnarounds – the Blues turned their back on 2 weeks of poor performances with this stunning annihilation of the Hawks at our home base. Welcoming back Stephen Kernahan, the forward line fired with a 3 prong attack kicking 5 each including Mil Hanna from the wing and Brad Pearce from the forward pocket.

Best on Ground would go to Barry Mitchell with 37 possessions and 2 cracker goals, with an able support cast in midfield comprising Kouta, Ang Christou and Brett Ratten.

Simon Beaumont, made his debut in this 102 point victory, and also scored a goal with his first kick in AFL football.

This game is remembered fondly by Carlton fans, and is considered one of our best wins in the Home & Away rounds of the 1990's.

Blues back to best after seeming worst
After Carlton's second loss for the season, to St Kilda last week coach David Parkin said: "Take it on record that it was one of Carlton's saddest days, particularily when Justin Madden played his 250th game for Carlton. We have gone from the best team in the competition to the worst team in two weeks". The Blues managed just 3.6.24 against the rampaging Saints 11.14.80, and this followed an equally insipid 8.12.60 loss to Sydney's 21.6.132. However, more than 27,000 Blues fans at Princes Park today watched the reversal of football fortunes in growing good cheer. By the end of the afternoon Carlton were the best team in the competition again joyfully pounding Hawthorn by 102 points, 26.16.172 to 10.10.70. Stephen Kernahan was back in town, kicking five, alongside speeding sensation Brad Pearce. So did Mil Hanna who exploded open the game in the first quarter. Brett Ratten and Craig Bradley were dynamos. - 100 Years of Australian Football (1897 to 1996).
