Carlton speedster Dennis Armfield says it’s “crucial” the Blues carry their recent competitive form into this weekend’s game against Port Adelaide at the MCG.

The Blues showed some positive signs before the bye in their nail biting loss to Adelaide in Round 10 and Armfield says it’s helped restore confidence.

“It’s been a bit of a hectic year but we showed some good signs against Adelaide and hopefully we can finish off the second half of the year a lot better,” Armfield told Radio Sport National on Thursday morning.

“It’s crucial we continue that (competitiveness) after the bye against Port Adelaide this week.”

Armfield says his focus this season has been on utilising his speed and applying plenty of pressure up forward.

“It’s about pressure acts, chases – more the defensive side of things … and if I can get on the end of a couple of goals that’s good,” he said.

The Western Australian, who kicked two goals in the match against Adelaide, says he’s happy to play wherever the coach needs him, but hinted he’d like to move from a forward role into the midfield.

“I’d love to get up in the midfield and have a run around,” Armfield said.

“I enjoy it up there but I’m happy to do what ever is best to get the four points, especially this week against Port.”
