Carlton captain Marc Murphy’s on-field leadership stood out last night with the skipper polling the highest number of votes for the Blues at the Brownlow Medal.

Murphy polled 12 votes, ahead of Tom Bell and Patrick Cripps who each earned six.

It takes Murphy’s total number of career Brownlow votes to 93 from 204 games.

The skipper polled in rounds four, 10, 12, 13 and 19, earning the maximum three votes in Round 4 v St Kilda and Round 10 v Adelaide.

Against the Saints on ANZAC Day, Murphy shook off a heavy tag to gather 34 disposals and three tackles, winning the inaugural Crowl McDonald Medal.

Meanwhile against the Crows Murphy was relentless, gathering a game-high 36 disposals, five marks and five tackles.

Also on Monday night Carlton’s Dennis Armfield was recognised for his work in the community, winning the Jim Stynes Community Leadership Award.

The judged acknowledged Armfield’s work with Carlton’s community programs, and his efforts to reduce the stigma associated with drug and alcohol addiction, through his work with Odyssey House Victoria.
