Carlton has today officially nominated Jack Silvagni as a potential father-son recruit.

Earlier this month at the NAB AFL Draft Combine, the 17-year-old couldn’t hide his desire to play for the Blues – the Club where his grandfather Serge and father Stephen became champions.

The Blues have also nominated Bailey Rice, the son of ’95 premiership player Dean Rice.

With a new father-son bidding system introduced this year, Carlton won’t know until draft night whether the Club will secure either one of the boys.

Carlton’s Head of Football Andrew McKay says both Silvagni and Rice would be assets to the Club.

“The Silvagni name is synonymous with the Blues and we’d be rapt to pick up Jack on draft night,” McKay said.

“Jack certainly is a talent in his own right, and it would be a great story to be able to secure, for the first time in our history, a third generation father-son selection.

“Although Bailey has already indicated he’d like to go to the Saints, by nominating him, this gives us the next opportunity if anything was to change.”

The NAB AFL National Draft will be held in Adelaide on Tuesday 24 November.
