New Blue Billie Smedts is set to reunite with former backline coach Dale Amos as the versatile utility makes his way to Ikon Park.

Smedts arrives at the Blues following the conclusion of the AFL Trade Period on Thursday after the Blues struck a deal with Geelong.

Carlton received the 24-year-old, as well as Geelong’s future first-round selection and Pick 63 in exchange for out-of-contract defender Zach Tuohy and future second-round selection.

“I had a really great relationship with Dale Amos down at Geelong when we were both there,” Smedts said.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him again at Carlton. I’ve only played 38 games but I feel I have a little bit of experience that I’ll be able to bring here.

“From my time at Geelong, I’ve obviously played with some great players there so now, I’m really looking forward to helping and working with the list here.

Amos leads Carlton’s impressive backline after seven years at Geelong, and the versatile Smedts could join the likes of Kade Simpson and Sam Docherty in the Blues’ defensive cog.

“I just met Kade in the gym and he said the boys were looking forward to having me here,” Smedts said.

“Hopefully they can use me at half forward, wing or even down half back which would be nice.”

The 24-year-old utility, who has played 38 senior games for Geelong since making his debut in 2011, said he was rapt to be at the Blues.

“The facilities here look awesome, it’s going to be a great training ground and I’m looking forward to getting struck into it with the boys,” Smedts said.

“I’m just really happy to be at Carlton and super excited for next year."
