Carlton's Ciaran Sheehan had many reasons to smile after Saturday's 39-point win over the Gold Coast at Etihad Stadium.

The Blues won 14.13 (97) to the Suns 8.10 (58).

The 24-year-old Irishman who made his senior debut for the Blues in the Round 20 clash didn't go unnoticed with a total of 13 disposals for the day.

Sheehan described the experience as "overwhelming".

"I'm absolutely delighted that we came out with the win," Sheehan said.

"That was the most important thing for me.

"(Also) to go out there and play with the lads was really enjoyable – I loved every minute of it."

The Irishman, who's spent the past seven months polishing his skills and knowledge of the game, says he couldn't have done it without the support of VFL and development coach Luke Webster.

"I guess Webby has been really good for me, and the coaches have been unbelievable to me," Sheehan said.

"I just wanted to try and do the best that I can. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity and hopefully I can get a few more games.

"Back home it's any player's dream to play a professional sport - I've been very lucky and blessed with the people around me."
