Two young Blues have put their hands up to be leaders among their peers, with Sam Docherty and Ed Curnow signing on as Carlton’s new delegates with the AFL Players’ Association.

Delegates from across the country gathered in Melbourne over the weekend for the annual AFLPA Directors and Delegates conference.

The conference was an opportunity for players and directors to come together and discuss a host of hot topics in the AFL, including equilisation, free agency, the collective bargaining agreement and representative football.

Docherty welcomed the opportunity to be involved.

“Lachie Henderson approached me early in the off season about becoming involved with the Players’ Association and I was certainly keen to,” Docherty said.

“It’s a good opportunity to act as a voice for the team as well as develop my own leadership skills – being part of Carlton’s leadership group one day is something that I aspire to.

“The conference was really interesting and we covered a range of topics, so I’ve been able to update the team and get their thoughts as well."
