FIELDING a team without Marc Murphy in 2019 never entered Andrew McKay’s mind, with the Head of Football confident the skipper would recommit.

Speaking to SEN on Monday evening, McKay reiterated Murphy was always seeking to remain a one-club player at Carlton.

“We were confident that 'Murph' wanted to stay with us - that’s certainly what he was indicating,” McKay said.

“Obviously with the free agency period it allows the boys to explore other options if they like, but for Marc to sign up with us is a real vote of confidence in where we’re heading and our systems to do that.”

With Murphy now locked away, as well as key forward Charlie Curnow, McKay said the Blues were also in the process of securing the talents of vice-captain Patrick Cripps.

“We got Charlie a few weeks ago which was fantastic for us and then to sign Marc this week is great. We’re in discussions with Patrick’s management at the moment and that’s heading in the right direction,” McKay said.

“We’re still not sure how long process will take, but Patrick has indicated to us that he is keen to stay, and we’re very keen for him to stay as well.”

Meanwhile, Carlton takes on Brisbane this week which will provide another challenge for the group, with the Lions coming off a terrific victory against Fremantle at Optus Stadium.

As the competition draws to the pointy end of the season, McKay said the Blues will strive to finish on a positive note and continue to win as many games as possible.

“We go into every game absolutely trying our heart out to win - that’s just a non-negotiable for us and nothing changes this week,” McKay said.

“It’s going to be a hell of a challenge. Over the past few years we haven’t put our best foot forward up there, so we really need to concentrate this weekend and get the result we want.”

Carlton faces Brisbane at the Gabba on Saturday afternoon, with all the action kicking off at 1:45pm.
