Blues’ big man Sam Rowe has inked a new two-year-deal which will keep him at Carlton until at least the end of 2016.

Rowe came to Carlton as a mature-age recruit from the Norwood Football Club in South Australia, being selected with pick No. 44 in the 2011 National Draft. He made his debut in Round 2 last year against Collingwood and has since played 28 AFL games.

After beginning his career as a forward and spending some time in the ruck, Rowe made the move to the backline at the start of the year. It’s been a successful shift, with the 26-year-old playing in all but one of Carlton’s games so far this season.

Carlton’s GM – Football Operations Andrew McKay says Rowe has earned his opportunity.

“Sam is the kind of player who works extremely hard on his training and techniques, and we’ve seen the results of his hard work on the field this year,” McKay said.

“Off the field Sam has been a great person to have around the Club and we can see his leadership growing as his confidence grows.

“We believe he has a lot to offer our team and are delighted that he has agreed to terms.”

Rowe joins a host of Carlton players to recommit to the Club this year including Marc Murphy, Kade Simpson, Andrew Walker, Bryce Gibbs, Michael Jamison, Tom Bell, Dylan Buckley, and Chris Yarran.
