Bryce Gibbs believes Carlton can get its season back on track and it’s not all doom and gloom for the Blues, despite entering Round 8 at 2-5.

Speaking at a Q&A session with school kids at Lalor East Primary School on Tuesday morning, Gibbs said the Blues were not writing off their season just yet.

“I think we’ve played some really good patches of footy this year, just not as consistent as we would have liked,” Gibbs said.

“When we’re up and going we can match it with the best sides, so we’ve just got to make sure we bring that consistent effort.

“I think you’ve seen with the competition it’s all pretty even, anything can happen this year. We just need to string some wins together and we’ll be back in the mix.”

The Blues’ midfielder said the 34-point loss to arch-rivals Collingwood on Friday night stung the playing group.

“It was tough. We played some really good footy leading up to that game and we went in confident that we could play some good footy,” Gibbs said.

“We knew it was going to be a tough task. It was going to be a good test for us and we’re bitterly disappointed with the result.

“I think early on it was a skill issue. We started so well and then our skills really let us down and we turned the ball over and allowed them to score.”

Gibbs was also hounded about his future after this season, but reiterated his main goal was to remain a Blue.

“My focus has just been to play good footy and help the team win – that’s all I want to do and that’s all it has been about,” Gibbs said.

Carlton faces St Kilda on Monday night at Etihad Stadium, meaning the Blues have a 10-day break between that game and their Round 7 loss to the Pies.

A win on Monday will see the Blues jump up the ladder to sit just outside the top eight by possibly only four points. Carlton then has the bye in round nine.
