Carlton coach Mick Malthouse says Chris Judd’s decision to play on next year has nothing to do with kudos, contract or number of games, but everything to do with the team.

Judd told the Club on Monday that he wants to play on next year if he can get through the rest of the season with a clean bill of health.

In his weekly interview with radio FIVEaa, Malthouse said the dual Brownlow medalist had been wrestling with the decision.

“The more I spoke to him, the more I think he came to the conclusion that he is playing good football; he’s had an interrupted 2014; we’re on the right track; he believes firmly that we’re going somewhere; and I’m delighted,” Malthouse said.

“In Chris Judd’s mind, and words to me, he now sees after a number of years of being at the Club, that we are heading in a direction that he feels very confident that the Club is going to have some impact on the ladder next year and he wants to be a part of it.”

Judd has played 268 games since making his debut for West Coast in 2002.

He’ll speak more about his decision to continue his career on this week’s Carlton Podcast. Look out for it on the Carlton website.
