While Carlton players have been putting in the hard yards training at altitude in Arizona, a number of others who didn’t make the trip are working equally hard on the training track at Visy Park.

Carlton vice-captain Andrew Carrazzo is among the group who have stayed behind.

He says although they may not have snow to contend with, they’ve been doing their best to mimic the training load of their teammates at Flagstaff.

“It’s certainly not a walk in the park,” Carrazzo said.

“We had a huge week last week – not far off our biggest week at the Club from a workload standpoint – so the guys back here are certainly putting the work in.”

The pre-season training schedule at Visy Park has been intense with circuits, weights sessions, and running drills in pouring rain.

Players have also been spending lengthy sessions in Carlton’s Altitude Room and Carrazzo says overall, the workload has gone up a notch under the regime of new High Performance Manager David Buttifant.

“The sort of running that we’re doing on the track, it’s a little bit different; a little bit unpredictable,” Carrazzo said.

“You’re not able to get a grip on what we’ve got next, which keeps everyone on edge and everyone working as hard as possible.”

Meanwhile after an injury-interrupted year Carrazzo says his body is feeling good and he’s ready to attack next season.
