The Club recently facilitated a focus group made up from a range of members, including children, to look at ways it can improve on Family Day in 2014.

The Club acknowledges that despite searing heat at our 2013 Family Day, large crowds and extended queues for player signatures provided a less-than ‘amazing experience’ for our members and supporters.

The Club is committed to providing a day where its members and supporters can come together to celebrate the season ahead, welcome new recruits and give children the opportunity to meet their favourite players.

The Club received some really useful feedback through the focus group regarding our 2013 event and importantly established a list of priorities as to what a family day should represent/include for them. These priorities included:

  • Signature opportunities, particularly for children
  • The team guernsey presentation
  •  Reduced queues
  • Have an incentive/ benefit for members
  • Children want photo opportunities with players
  • Activities for children
  • The starting time is flexible, could be much earlier/late afternoon

The focus group also discussed the Club's challenge in facilitating 'Family Day' like activities for crowds over 5k-8k, which can be expected well into the future.  There was an understanding by the group that the issue of major queues for signatures would remain if the current format was maintained. Changing the format will not necessarily change the demand for signatures but change the 'focus' of the event, to be more about coming together to 'kick off the season' - and less about autograph hunting.

The Club will continue to look at ways to improve its Family Day event and appreciates the time volunteered by those who participated in the Family Day focus group. If you have any further feedback regarding you wish to provide please contact the Club at blues@carltonfc.com.au
