Carlton's Best & Fairest count for the John Nicholls Medal will be held at Crown Palladium tomorrow night.

The award is named in honour of Carlton champion John Nicholls,  who was awarded the Blues' Best & Fairest five times between 1959 and 1967.

The impressive record of the former Carlton coach and captain includes 328 games, 307 goals and three premierships.

In a career that endured an incredible 18 seasons, Nicholls' strong leadership skills and ability to read the game proved him a cut above the rest.

Past recipients of the John Nicholls Medal include the Club's General Manager of Football Operations Andrew McKay, and Carlton captain Marc Murphy.

Blues veteran Heath Scotland won the award last year, and said it was a huge honour.

"To have big Nick (John Nicholls) come up on stage and shake my hands with his monstrous hands – it was a dream come true," Scotland said at the time.

"You don't play for these things. You obviously play for Premierships, and you try to win every game. These are the things that come along on the way, and you never expect them."

The count gets underway at 7pm tomorrow night. You can keep track of the count on Twitter by following @CarltonFC.
