A genuine air of excitement prevails at Visy Park on the eve of Carlton’s maiden intra-club hit-out for 2013.

Newly-appointed Carlton coach Mick Malthouse officiates for the first time tomorrow, as the players take to the field for four x 15 minutes quarters.

Though four players are currently injured with a further six to be rested, Carlton General Manager Football Operations Andrew McKay said the club was upbeat about the number of players available for the hit-out considering it was decimated with injury in the corresponding period last year.

“We’ve got four Northern Blues players in each team for tomorrow and that’s with five on the bench, so the senior playing stocks are fairly healthy,” McKay said.

McKay did not expect tomorrow’s intra-club match to be as solid as that pencilled in for Visy Park on February 15.

“Tomorrow it’ll be a case of ‘When the ball’s there to be won, win it’, but there won’t be any smashing of any so-called opposition,” McKay said.

“It’ll be a lot more about strategy. You’ll see a lot in terms of team structure and teamwork, you can expect to see the boys working for eachother and hopefully you’ll see a lot of enthusiasm.”
