Carlton's Bryce Gibbs says talk that he could switch sides is nothing more than media speculation.

Gibbs has another year remaining on his contract at Carlton.

He's told Gen Y Footy that the Blues want him to stay put, and he intends to do just that.

"The last couple of weeks, the Club has come out and said they are going to back me and they want me to stay, so that's very comforting."

After being picked up by Carlton with the number one draft pick in the 2006 National Draft, Gibbs quickly asserted himself on the field, making his debut in round one of the 2007 season.

The 24-year-old has shown himself to be a versatile player with great awareness, and Coach Mick Malthouse has been making the most of that versatility this season.

"I've had a few different roles this year," Gibbs told Gen Y Footy.

"Mick likes to throw the players challenges. It's great to accept them week to week, and I don't want to be anywhere else, so I think it's a good fit."

When asked about his coach's famous sprays, Gibbs was quick to point out that Malthouse doesn't discriminate.

"Mick is very demanding on us players and if you're not performing, then he will bring in someone who will."

"If you're not playing your role and pulling your weight, then you definitely know about it."
