THE Lions lead the Blues at half-time by 37 points in today’s clash at the Gabba, 8.7 (55) to 2.6 (18).

It was a promising start by the Blues in the first term, but their goalless second quarter was one to forget.

FIRST QUARTER

It was a seesawing battle for the lead with a term comprised of two lead changes. The Lions ultimately got ahead with 10 seconds left on the clock, with just two points separating the sides at the first break.

While Carlton had more inside 50s (15-7), it didn’t manage to convert its opportunities, kicking two goals and five behinds, while Brisbane managed three goals and one behind.

A turnover by Brisbane led to Sam Petrevski-Seton’s first major of the match, with Charlie Curnow also putting his name to a goal.

Cameron Polson had a team-high contested possessions (four), while Matthew Kennedy led the Blues for kicks (eight).

Patrick Cripps applied plenty of defensive pressure with three tackles and three contested possessions.

Andrew Phillips was sidelined midway through the first term with a minor strain to his right hamstring. He will not return to the ground today. The Club will have further news early next week.

The score at quarter-time was Brisbane 3.1 (19) to Carlton 2.5 (17).

SECOND QUARTER

A bright start quickly evaporated, with the Lions extending their lead to 37 points in a quarter of footy the Blues would probably rather forget.

Brisbane piled on five unanswered goals, with Carlton managing just one rushed behind.

Cripps leads both teams for tackles (six), while captain Marc Murphy leads the Blues for contested possessions (six).

The score at half-time is Brisbane 8.7 (55) to Carlton 2.6 (18).
